ELDER CARE can encompass issues of housing, coordination of medical and care services, socialization, transportation, safety, nutrition, advance directives and financial management among others.
CAREGIVING is support provided by friends, family, volunteers and professional staff. It may be a person who is responsible for the direct care and protection of a person who is no longer able to perform all of the critical tasks of personal or household care necessary for everyday survival. Rosalyn Carter said it best, "There are only four kinds of people in the world-those who have been caregivers, those who are currently caregivers, those who will be caregivers and those who need caregivers."
SERVING SENIORS AND DISABLED ADULTS IN A DIGNIFIED MANNER includes respecting an individual’s choice, desire for independence, uniqueness of personal needs and goals in life, reducing isolation and loneliness, and raising up the value of these persons in our lives and the life of the community. Senior Ministry and Community Care services for disabled adults, adults age 50+ and their caregivers should be coordinated to address the areas of one’s Wholeness and Well-Being: Physical, Emotional, Spiritual, Social/Interpersonal, Intellectual, Financial and Vocational.
WE ALL CAN MAKE THAT DIFFERENCE IN SOMEONE'S LIFE, IN SMALL AND BIG WAYS BY LEARNING WHAT THE NEEDS ARE AND LENDING A HELPING HAND.
